The advantages of using Viresco® Olus in wild rocket cultivation

The pre-seeded biofabric for horticulture Viresco® Olus consists of fibres derived entirely from cellulose and is therefore totally biodegradable. It is also particularly useful for weed and pathogen control, as well as economical and practical precision seeding.
With an innovative technology in the mesh, horticultural seeds are precisely positioned in rows or by scattering, without the use of any binding agents or additives. Its use does not require skilled labour and allows work to be greatly limited, before, during and after cultivation.

It allows:

– maximum utilisation of greenhouses and land by eliminating false sowing and solarisation;

– sowing and mulching at the same time;

– no need to weed or thin during cultivation; 

– healthy and clean plants at harvest;

– no need for and no cost of disposal;

Wild rocket and cultivated rocket

Rocket is a plant that prefers warm weather, and below 15° it struggles to germinate. With mild temperatures, more cutting can be performed and the biofabric provides stable protection for the crop, particularly from broadleaf weeds, but also from pathogens.

Rocket is mainly divided into cultivated rocket and wild rocket:

• cultivated rocket has a milder flavour and tolerates the cold better
• wild rocket, on the other hand, besides being more in demand on the market, has a stronger and more appreciated flavour, keeps better, but suffers a lot from the cold and from pests.

Virens applications

This documented example shows greenhouses sown with wild rocket using Viresco® Olus scattering.

The entire production cycle can be seen, starting with the preparation of the ssoil for ridge sowing, the laying of the biofabric, germination as the crop progresses free of weeds, completely free of chemical treatments and with reduced labour.

The crop is thick, healthy, clean, with trouble-free growth.

The yield is very high and cutting has taken place 4 times with a product of excellent quality.
