In September 2023, protection and greening work was carried out on an embankment under the San Giorgio Bridge (formerly the Morandi Bridge) in Genoa. Overlooking the Polcevera torrent and an area destined for the new Campasso Park, the client chose to protect and green the first level of the banks with VIRMAT three-dimensional pre-seeded erosion control geomats.
Virmat geomats are valued in hydraulic works, geotechnics and environmental engineering for enhanced erosion control and the protection of loose, easily eroded soils or soils subject to surface detachment from water and wind.
The structure of the geomats has been designed to guarantee a high anti-erosion standard and to permanently retain a layer of vegetable soil at the top of the geomat, thus guaranteeing moisture and thermal protection for the seed contained in the biotextile underneath. The result will be a single tough block that is resistant to erosive action.
Highly valued in hydraulic works, Virmat it is easy to install and achieves excellent results in terms of erosion control, restoration of green areas, and aesthetics.
The photos illustrate the stages of the work, from laying to complete grassing, despite the less than optimal soil quality.
